The Basic Tenets of the St. Juniperro Serra Society (Simplified)

 BASIC TENETS:

1) PRAY

2) SPEAK UP

3) FORTIFY FAMILIES

4) TEACH TRUTH

5) BUILD COMMUNITIES

To be a part of the St. Juniperro Serra Society, you do not have to meet with anyone or take on a  formal position anywhere.

To be a part of it means that you are merely making a commitment of the heart to do what you can do to make the world a better place.

It means that whenever you can,  pray. Pray the rosary every day, or pray however you can.  Perhaps even go online to hear Fr. Mike’s 20 minute Bible in a Year podcast. Do what you can to connect with the amazing God Who created you and Who loves you deeply.

Speak up.  Post a comment or voice an opinion or in some way not allow an injustice to prevail  or a lie to go unchallenged.

For example, our newspapers (and media in general) are extremely biased —there are few truly local papers within communities (check out who owns them).  But most have comment sections.  if you see a lie, or someone is being cancel cultured, your voice matters, even if you are the only one defending the person who is being attacked or the only one defending the truth about whatever matter is being discussed.

If you are a teacher, there are plenty of opportunities to teach the truth.  If a curriculum involves lying, teach your students how to think deeply —how to think for themselves—about the issues.  What is right or wrong with this idea?  What are the opposing viewpoints on the subject and how would they analyze those views?

The truth emerges victorious from a free expression of ideas.  If children are taught how to question, how to think, and how to not be afraid of new ideas, they will have the tools they need to get through some of the disastrous educational mandates placed by some not-so-well-meaning people who are developing the school curriculums today.

If you have a family, as Mother Teresa said, go home and love them. You are the glue that holds society together.

Help the people within your communities to weather the storms of the day however you are able to do so.

You may be especially gifted at one or more of these things.  You may be a prayer warrior, or a good writer. You may be a teacher or are a busy parent with a  family. You may be involved in your community to a great extent. Whatever your strengths are,  fantastic! Use them to make your world better.

Or you may be incredibly busy and only have time for one or two of these things. Of course, that is fine too.  Just commit to do good.  You are so needed in this world, and God has put you here at this time and in this place for a reason.

You are the light of the world.  Go out and shine!

And God bless you!!
